The Fight

“Hey look, it’s the psycho,” Cole said looking at Bryant.

“Knock it off Cole,” Jasmine said raising her voice.

“You better watch it jock, these traitors could turn their backs on you fairly quickly when you lease expect it.

“Bryant, we didn’t turn our backs on you you’re the one who told me to go away remember,” Alex said.

“And you said I didn’t understand, Dominique,” Jasmine said joining in.

“Yeah hear that farmers? Your girls don’t want you anymore,” Cole replied smugly and started walking away.

“Alex, Jasmine, come on your with us aren’t you,” Daniel said.

“We’re not anyone’s property, we’re not with anybody, and we’ll do as we like,” Jasmine said as her anger was rising.

“Jasmine I…uh…I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight I’ll admit,” Dominique said walking over to her, “but you deserve better than this,” he said punching Cole square in the face.

Daniel went over and started punching Bryant until he tackled and pinned him on the tar. Cole and Dominique were pretty evenly matched and soon the school dean came over. Cole, Dominique, and Daniel all had bloody noses. All were scratched and bruised. Bryant only had a black eye and was still sitting on Daniel.

“All of you are suspended form school tomorrow,” the dean said adding on, “plus I want a full report on the incident.”

“Why are you suspending the girls? They didn’t do anything,” Dominique said.

“Yeah, that’s about the only thing we can agree on. They had no part in the fight,” Cole said.

“Fine, you two I want in school tomorrow no exceptions but I still want a report from the six of you.”

“Wow, only one day? He let us off easy,” Daniel said getting up as the dean left.

“Yeah no kidding,” Cole replied.

“Alex, come on let’s go,” Jasmine said walking away.

All six went different directions in groups of two. Jasmine and Alex got a ride from Dominique and Bryant because Cole and Daniel lived in town. The following day the girls ran into the gothic boys Ryan and Ethan. Surprisingly they talked to them during lunch when they had no one else to sit with.

“Uh…hey, Ryan right,” Jasmine asked as they sat down.

“Must make you Ethan,” Alex said right after.

“Yeah, I guess,” Ryan said mumbling.

“Come sit we’re not expecting anyone else today anyway,” Alex said.

Ryan sat next to Alex and Ethan, Jasmine.

“Why are you two always with them boys,” asked Ethan.

“Their dangerous you know,” Ryan added.

“Who, Dominique and Bryant,” asked Alex.

“Of course, who else,” Ryan answered.

“Just because they were suspended,” Jasmine started but the bell rang for homeroom.

“Well see you guys later,” Alex said dumping her tray.

The two girls went to their homeroom then went to their third and fourth hour classes. During their fourth hour Science class they took notes when Alex whispered to Jasmine, “Have you noticed Mr. Jalu has been keeping an eye on us?”

            “Yeah weird,” Jasmine replied softly.

They stayed after school and were walking around the football field when Ryan and Ethan walked up to them.

“Hey Alex,” Ryan said, “what are you two up to?”

“Just decided to hang out for tech, why are you here?”

“Just staying after for fun Jasmine,” Ethan said.

They walked around the track field for a while longer in silence until Ryan spoke up.

“What’s your purpose in life Alex?”

“I have no idea why?”

“Just curious I guess. What about you Jasmine? Have any big dreams?”

“I have no idea what I want to do with my life yet. Just play the game day after day I guess.”

“You think life is a game,” Ethan said.

“No, just seems like it, you do mainly the same things five days a week and come weekends you don’t know what play to make next.”

“Nice explanation. Put it like that and yeah life does seem like a game with us being pawns,” Ryan said.

They rounded the track again and when they came to the entrance they saw Daniel, Dominique, Cole, and Bryant walk in.

“What are you doing here psychos,” Ryan said.

“Looking for you,” Cole said, “what are you doing near our girls?”

“We’re not anyone’s property Cole; I’ve told you that before,” Jasmine said.

“Yeah back off you guys,” Alex said helping her.

“You shut up Alex,” Bryant sneered.

Alex walked up to Bryant and said, “Keep that mouth of yours shut.” He turned around to talk and Alex punched him.

“What was that for,” yelled Bryant.

“Gee I wonder,” Jasmine said trying not to laugh.

            “Now leave,” Ethan said.

“We aren’t listening to some gothic kid,” Daniel said.

“Then listen to me and leave,” Alex said including herself.

“So first you guys are traitors to us and go with the jocks then, you start with the gothic kids,” Bryant said.

“Let’s just leave Bryant,” Dominique said walking away.

After Alex cooled of Ryan and Ethan said their good-byes and the two girls talked about their day in school.

“Why did we have to play softball again,” complained Alex, “we have practice or a game four to five days a week.”

“Yeah but it’s nearing the end of the season and it just happens to be that week in Physical Ed,” Jasmine said.

“True, I can’t believe you failed your Geography test today.”

“I can’t believe you failed your Science test.”

“Hey Science is hard,” Alex complained some more.

“It’s easy c’mon. All we’re doing is learning about combining atoms and the periodic table of elements.”

            “Geography’s easy.”

“So,” Jasmine said sarcastically.

“Well let’s go if our coach catches us out here he’ll be wondering where we’ve been all week,” Alex said.

“Yeah, late bus should be here soon as well.”

“So what did you do in tech,” asked Jasmine.

“Worked on my frame what about you.”

“Same here. I cut the glass for our picture frames.”

They headed out to the parking lot where they found Buck just starting to pull out. They ran to greet him and he gladly said he would give them a ride.
