“Yo
Alex, what’s up,” Gizmo said sarcastically.
“Where am I?”
“You’re
safe, in the gym,” Jasmine said imitating her Kovu voice from the Lion King 2.
“What happened? All
I remember is I saw that girl then after that my mind is blank.”
“Yeah
then after that we ran into Dominique and Bryant and you fainted and Bryant caught you,” Jasmine started.
“What’s Gizmo
doing here,” asked Alex glaring at Jasmine.
“I
had to disconnect the cameras and erase what they already recorded of you guys. That’s why the lights were flickering,”
said Gizmo.
“Yeah well past is
past let’s go, this time Bryant go with Alex. Gizmo, where are you going? Staying here at the school with us or going
home,” asked Jasmine.
“Guess
I’ll stay. We don’t have school tomorrow thanks to that teacher workshop at noon.”
“Alright then. Who
are you going to go with,” asked Bryant.
“I’ll
just go to the computer lab and look into the schools main system. I can get a good look through it while no one is here to
bust me.”
“Okay. We set a camera
earlier during homeroom in the business lab so use that one,” said Jasmine
“So
that’s what you were up to.”
“Yeah,” Jasmine
and Alex said together.
“Well
later,” Gizmo said walking out of the gym with his sneakers echoing off the walls throughout the room.
“Okay that’s
settled. Bryant, Dominique why didn’t you answer our call earlier on the walkie-talkies? We tried a few times,”
said Alex.
“We
never go any calls from you guys. Here’s our radio,” Bryant said throwing their walkie-talkie to them.
“Hey Bryant guess
what, it’s off,” Alex said.
“No
its not I turned it on before we split.”
“Well smarty how
would you explain this then.
“Why
are you two fighting? C’mon be nice to each other, Bryant I know you like her,” Dominique said.”
“No I don’t
Dominique! I hate her you know that.”
“Gee
thanks,” Alex said as she turned away.
“Alex wait! I didn’t
mean it like that. Hold up!”
Bryant
ran after Alex as she ran out of the gym to the main commons.
“Well let’s
go I guess. We’re off the see the ghost, the wonderful ghost of Stine High,” Jasmine said flatly.
Dominique
and Jasmine wandered around and went upstairs.
“Let’s go look
around, it’s not like we have nothing else to do. I guess I just had another stupid idea.”
“You
weren’t sure what was going on and you looked into it. It wasn’t a stupid idea Jasmine.”
“Yeah, sure.”
They
walked past the business lab and seen Gizmo at the computer typing away. They took a few more steps and heard him scream.
Jasmine arrived in the room first and found nothing. Dominique beside her was just as surprised.
“Where’s Giz?”
“Dunno
but lets go check it out, Dominique. He was just here a minute ago and he never screams.”
They wandered into the
business lab only to find some papers he was working on.
“The
little cheat was gathering answers on the next test. No wonder why he gets them all right,” Dominique said looking up
at Jasmine as her face was filled with horror, “Jasmine?”
“Dominique…look,”
she said pointing towards the computer screen shaking.
“It’s
Gizmo!”
Sure enough they saw Gizmo
in the monitor punching the screen yelling. Dominique quickly turned the mute off and then they sat there helpless form what
they saw next.
“You
guys get me outta here, please. Please, I’ll never hack or cheat again just help me,” Gizmo said crying
Then all of a sudden everything
on the screen went black and they hear him again.
“Man
thank you guys,” he said behind them.
They turned around and
he started walking towards them when the lights went out in the lab and hallway. The only light that was visible was increasing
in size dramatically. It went from a small orb to a teenage figure. Then as the lights flickered on again and they had seen
it happen in seconds. One second Gizmo was walking towards them, and the next his head was chopped off. His headless figure
stood there until it was unable to support itself and toppled over.
“Dominique,
I’m not sure how much more I can take.”
“Let’s go.
We’ll just stay in the storage room and try to contact Alex and Bryant, “Dominique replied then whispered to himself,
“I hope they didn’t split up.”
He
took Jasmine to the storage room where they were supposed to meet at eleven.
“Time sure does fly
huh,” Jasmine said quietly.
“Yeah
it’s already three in the morning.”
“Let’s try
to contact Alex and Bryant again.”
“Alex,
Bryant. It’s Dominique. Respond if your there, over.”
“Bryant here, over.”
A
wave of relief ran over Jasmine just in time to hear him say the next part.
“Come to storage
pronto,” Dominique responded.
“Problem.”
“What is it?”
“Can’t
find Alex. Lost her on the stage.”
“If you find her
radio us and go to storage, meet there at three thirty if you find her or not.”
“Alright.
Over and out.”
Dominique and Jasmine searched
the junior high wing while Bryant went upstairs.
“There
you are Alex,” Bryant said relieved as he came up to her locker.
“What do you want?”
“Why
are you so shook up? You’re shaking like a wet dog.”
“Gee thanks. First
you lead me to believe your were my friend then you compare me to a wet dog.”
“Alex
c’mon. Just listen to me. Didn’t mean it like that,” Bryant went on, “Alex? What’s wrong?”
Alex just stood there as
she looked in her locker.
“Alex
what’s wrong.”
“Bryant, come look
at this.”
She
took out a piece of paper taped to her locker and read it. “You know too much. The thirteenth year has come. Pay now
or suffer the cost.”
“It’s the same
note Jasmine received.”
“What
are you saying? Jasmine got one to?”
“Yeah a few days
ago but she just thought someone was playing a sick joke on her.”
“Trust me Alex, this
is no joke. C’mon lets go to the storage room,” Bryant said pulling out his radio, “Dominique, Jasmine,
come in.”
“This
is Jasmine, what is it Bryant.”
“Found Alex. Meet
back at the storage.”
“Alright,
meet back.”
Bryant and Alex went to
the storage room where they met up with Jasmine and Dominique.
“Anyone
hungry,” asked Bryant taking out food from his sack as stomachs growled.
“What did you bring?
Or don’t I want to know,” Jasmine added.
“Let’s
see I have some dill pickle chips, some dogs if you don’t mind them cold. And of course fruit snacks.”
“Us and our fruit
snacks. Who knew,” Alex said continuing, “I found a note in my locker,” everyone froze as she continued;
“it said the same thing as Jasmines. Here take a look.”
“Dominique read it
over, “what does ‘Pay now or suffer the cost’ mean?”
“Not
sure but I was given a note a few days ago to,” Jasmine said.
“Because I thought
it was someone’s idea of a sick prank I didn’t tell anyone.”
“This
isn’t no game anymore, Jas.”
“Yeah look who’s
talking Bryant. You and Dominique here thought we were paranoid.”
“Yeah
well. Who wants to get some sleep? Its almost four in the morning. Hard to believe it’s Friday and we don’t have
school,” Dominique said yawning.
“Yeah. Short Sno
Daze week huh,” replied Alex.
“Who
won the Olympia
anyhow,” asked Jasmine.
“Who else than the
seniors,” Bryant said.
“They
win everything. Oh well let’s get some sleep if we can. The door is locked pretty well so no one should be able to come
in here,” said Jasmine.
They all found a spot to sleep that kept them
hid in case someone did end up breaking the lock to get in. Jasmine found a corner surrounded by boxes, while Alex went under
the table. Dominique fell asleep on top of one of the fridges in there and Bryant behind a piano.
