Unexpected Face-Off

“It’s about time, Alex.”

“Yeah Jasmine, took you long enough I thought I would die waiting.”

“I can’t believe it! Dominique, Bryant,” Jasmine said.

“Yeah it’s us. Except I guess I’m used to the name General.”

“Looks like you managed to get by our little army. I guess you are really to smart for your own good,” Bryant said right after Dominique.

“I need a challenge every now and then Bryant.”

“And I need a decent army and you two girls will do quiet well,” said someone behind Jasmine and Alex.

“Sir, they just arrived. Unit two was unable to complete their assignment,” Bryant responded.

Jasmine and Alex looked back only to see Frigg Jalu, their Science instructor.

“This is really messed up,” Alex said loudly.

“So remind me again why these two aren’t dead yet,” Frigg asked.

“Unit three and two failed resulting in us losing six people.”

“So just your four are left behind. I hope you can handle in training these girls to be in unit one. Only my best belong there,” Jalu asked.

“Not quiet four Jalu. Alex and I don’t want anything to do with you.”

“I never liked Science class,” Alex said to herself.

“Glad I exceeded the class then because I think it may become useful,” Jasmine replied.

Alex and Jasmine took a run for it with Bryant and Dominique close behind. They chased the two girls all over the school until they split up and lost them.

“Where’d they go,” Frigg Jalu asked coming up behind the boys.

“I’m not sure sir,” Dominique said looking around.

“Let’s split. Dominique go upstairs, I’ll take down,” Bryant said.

Dominique and Bryant looked all over the school then reported back to Frigg Jalu with nothing.

“Did you check the bathrooms? That’s where girls are all the time.”

“You want us to go in the girls’ bathroom,” Bryant asked unsure.

“Well sure since you let them two girls outwit and destroy Hailey and Bridget. Life just isn’t fair is it? Or should I say after life,” Jalu replied amused.

“Well let’s go, Bryant. I’ll take the upstairs you take downstairs.”

“But there is four down bathrooms down here and only one upstairs,” Bryant continued to whine.

“Fine I’ll check upstairs and the locker rooms.”

They searched both gym lockers, Jr. High bathrooms and upstairs and came up with nothing. But they didn’t know that Alex and Jasmine weren’t hiding. They we’re in plain sight.

            “Now what Jasmine?”

“Give me some salt peter will you.”

“I’m no Science expert remember. What are you trying to do?”

“I’m not done. It has to be explosive remember?”

“So what’s your plan Ms. Science wiz?”

“Um…did you pay any attention during class?”

            “No why,” asked Alex.

“Because I’m not sure after that.”

“You don’t know how to make explosives?”

“I do. Well I used to. If I can just figure out the formula again…” Jasmine said jotting down chemical symbols.

“I can’t believe I went in the girls’ bathroom.”

“Just quit whining already Bryant, its annoying.”

“Well you didn’t have to go in the girls’ bathroom.”

“Your right, I had to go in the locker rooms.”

“Anyway where do you think they could be?”

“I’m not sure that’s why I searched the locker rooms.”

“I say we keep looking because his highness will make us do something else stupid again if we report back with nothing again.”

            “Fine by me, lets go.”

“Hey Alex, ever shoot a pistol before,” Jasmine asked looking around in her bag.

            “No why?”

“We’re going to shoot Jalu. I’m almost finished doing this here we just need to get Bryant and Dominique in here so I can add the final chemical.”

“Well someone has to add the ingredient as they are in here.”

“I’ll stay. Better me than you anyhow. I know what I’m doing. Then all you would have to do is use this and finish off Frigg Jalu for good,” Jasmine said holding up the pistol.

“You should get the honor of finishing off Jalu. You can tell me what to do with the formula,” Alex said not backing down.

“Change of plans anyhow, I hear something.”

“Let’s go to our so-called lockers. I want to grab a notebook and pen,” Dominique said walking up the stairs.

            “Going to draw?”
“I don’t have anything better to do.”

“Aren’t we going to look for them girls,” Bryant asked.

“You mean Alex and Jasmine. And we’ll look for them I guess. I just want to draw.”

“Can you do this Dominique? You got to know Jasmine really good.”

“I should be asking you the same. You and Alex were close as well.”

“Were; Dominique. She hates me now and that was the plan, remember.”

“Anyway, where to?”

“Let’s go to the gym. It should be quiet there.”

“It should be quiet anywhere,” Bryant responded.

“Well, well, well, who do we have here?”

“Not good,” Alex said looking at Jasmine.

“What do you want Jalu,” Jasmine said unafraid but, uncertain.

“Your soul, your spirit, your ambition, and determination. But I’m curious to know how you figured it out it was me all along.”

“Are you that bored,” Bryant asked.

“You’d be surprised. I suppose we can look for the girls. Let’s start in the library.”

“Alright than, let’s go,” Bryant said following Dominique’s lead.

They wandered into the hall and found the library locked.

“Now what?”

“Pick the lock, what else genius,” Dominique replied taking out a pin, “you act like you don’t know how to do this Bryant.”

“Uh…”

“You have never picked a lock before?”

“Not really.”

“Well here you are,” Dominique said pulling the door open.

They wandered around for a bit checking offices and computer room s and looking between shelves.

            “Good memories here, huh Dominique.”

“Be quiet Bryant. Least I didn’t spaz out in front of the entire class.”

“I got her to hate me though. It was the plan you know.”

“Hey, Jasmines’ a bit harder.”

“How? Girls are so easy to fool. I think you just got attached that’s all. Fall in love did we?”

“No, she’s just persistent that’s all.”

“Sure now. You just can’t admit it.”

“Whatever, lets just go.”

They locked and walked out of the library heading towards the common room. A

few minutes later they heard a gunshot.

“What the heck was that,” Bryant asked remembering that Jalu was upstairs.

“I think we found our girls.”

“Our girls? Don’t you mean your girl and her friend?”

“Shut up already. Let’s just go check it out. It’s not like we have anything better to do besides walk around bored out of our minds.”

They carefully wandered up the steps and to the Science room. They listened for a moment and heard Alex talking to Jasmine.

“I’m not that stupid. I know how to get information if I want it.”

“You two don’t seem the type to go out and hunt ghosts.”

“What I want I get and I get what I want. I’m not some little goody-two-shoes and I’m tired of people saying I am.”

“You never get in trouble and you exceed all your classes especially mine unfortunately. Why wouldn’t anyone think that,” Frigg Jalu said.

“I don’t always use my information just for learning. Like I bet you didn’t know that a close friend of mine was investigating this case since I started. Well you must have found out I guess because he’s dead now.”

“So what do you know,” Jalu asked holding his side where he was shot.

“More than you,” Jasmine said raising the pistol.

Dominique and Bryant had seen it all. Their master was defeated  right before their eyes by the hands of two freshmen girls no less. They slowly crept in and saw Alex looking away as Jasmine lowered the gun.

            “Ja…Jasmine,” Dominique muttered.

“You killed him. How could you!?”

            “Bryant, settle down will you?”

“Don’t you care at all that your little girlfriend here killed out master? I suppose you don’t because if anything happened to the Colonial Frigg Jalu because you’re next that takes control.”

            “Bryant, just listen will you!”

“What’s going on here,” Jasmine whispered to Alex.

“Not quiet sure. But now’s our chance let’s take advantage of it.”

“Not yet. Let’s see what they have to say first.”

“We know what our mission is now let’s finish it,” Bryant say annoyed.

“No, I have a better idea. This is getting way out of hand.”

“No Dominique, you’re out of hand. If you won’t finish this mission then I will,” Bryant said walking over to one of the experiment tables, “I’ll finish this even if it kills me again.”

“What the heck is going on? Why are you two sitting here arguing when you’re trying to kill us while we are here confused like a dodo bird?”

“Because you wouldn’t understand anyhow,” Bryant said adding chemicals together.

“Alex, get out of here,” Jasmine whispered.

“You want to know what’s going on, Jasmine. You two have been our targets for a while now. The reason for that is because you’re both strong willed, have determination, and are willing to take risks.”

“So you have to kill us,” Alex said bluntly.

“Well I guess we could negotiate something,” Dominique said.

“Too late,” Bryant adding one last chemical to his formula.

A loud explosion blew everything against the walls and some things just vanished. Alex, Jasmine, Dominique, and Bryant were lying there on the floor not moving and the walls started to crumble. A desk crashed to the floor nearby.

“What the…,” Jasmine muttered slowly crawling to her feet. “Alex what happened?”

“Over here,” a voice came from beneath a desk.

“Didn’t they teach you hiding under your desk doesn’t really help,” Jasmine said sarcastically.”

“This don’t count as an earthquake,” Alex asked.

            “Are you alright?”

“Yeah pretty sure,” Alex said trying to get out from under the desk, “ow…my leg really hurts.”

“Don’t move. I’m going to try and find Bryant and Dominique.”

Jasmine wandered around listening to sirens coming closer. She looked everywhere but no sign of the guys.

“Miss? Are you alright,” asked a voice coming into the room.

“Don’t worry about me. My friend needs the help. She’s over there under that desk,” Jasmine said pointing.

“Excuse me miss, we need to get you out of here. These chemicals in the air could kill you,” a firefighter said rapping a blanket around her helping her outside. “I’ll promise we’ll get your friend.”

“This warmth, where am I,” Jasmine said kind of in a dream state.

                                             “Jasmine.”

“Dominique, I’m glad to see you alright. ”
“You too Jasmine, but you and Alex need to stay alive okay?
“What do you mean?”

“Just stay alive,” Dominique said fading away.

“I think she’s conscious,” came a faraway voice.

“Jasmine, are you alright? Can you hear me?”

A familiar voice came. She couldn’t figure out who it was until she opened her eyes only to see Alex near her. She as in a bed of some sort but couldn’t figure out where.

“I’m so glad your okay,” Alex replied looking at Jasmine.

“Where am I? What happened,” Jasmine asked in response.

“One of the firemen was leading you out I guess and you fainted. Doctor said you breathed in some of the chemicals in the air and your system should have collapsed all together so it’s a miracle your alive.”

“What about you Alex. You were right there too.”

“When you left to find Dominique and Bryant I found a napkin that someone must have shoved in the desk that collapsed on me. I used it as a filter so I didn’t inhale as many chemicals.”

            “Dominique and Bryant…?”
“Did you find them?”

“No of course not. They died in a chemical explosion and that’s how they died again.”

“Yeah, I forgot about that.”

“Think you can keep a secret?”

“You know I won’t tell a soul Jasmine, living or dead.”

“Dominique is the one who saved me.”

“Okay now you’re hallucinating.”

“Yeah I guess I maybe,” But she thought to herself; but I know I’m not.

The school was rebuilt and Jasmine and Alex returned. No one really knew how or what happened and no on seemed to care. When people asked about Alex’s cast on her leg she just simply put that she fell. They finished their freshmen year top of their class and wrote the first place story competition in state. They also received an award for their start wide newspaper article.
