Unexpected Visitors

“Why don’t the six of us go out tonight,” suggested Bryant.

“And do what,” asked Alex swinging out on the playground.

“Why don’t we go somewhere to eat then go see a movie,” Jasmine said.

“Or we could order a pizza at the café and eat at my place and watch a movie,” Cole volunteered.

            “Works for me,” Dominique said.

“Alright let’s walk up to the café and order that pizza,” replied Daniel.

They walked to the café and all pitched in on the pizza. Then went a few blocks to Cole’s house. The movie they ended up watching was Grease. A pizza and movie later they were all having a blast singing to some of the songs on the radio. Afterwards they all fell asleep. The following day they saw Bridget, Markl, and Max in the park so they decided to go talk to them. They greeted them as they walked up to Bridget and Jasmine noticed something different. They all had blood red eyes.

“Hey Alex. How has your day been? I’ve been swell. Would you like to go for a walk,” Bridget said amused.

“I’ll pass,” Alex responded looking right into her eyes. “But then again maybe I’ll just take a short walk,” she said not lifting her gaze.

“Yeah Jasmine, come with us for a walk,” Markl said.

“I’ll hang here with the guys,” said Max.

“I’ll pass and so will Alex. We have to get back to our house before long. We’re expected at noon,” Jasmine responded pulling Alex away.

“Oh no you don’t,” said Max running towards Jasmine. Cole and Daniel caught up to him and while Daniel tripped over himself and tripped Max as well while Cole tackled and pinned him down.

“What do you think your doing,” Cole said.

“Look at me. Do you think I would try to harm her,” Max asked looking straight into Cole’s eyes.

“No I guess,” he replied getting up.

“Good. Now let’s all be civilized here and talk this out.”

“Cole, get out of there,” Jasmine yelled.

Jasmine found a loose wire on the ground and ran up to Max. She went to put it around his neck when it electrocuted him and he vanished.

“How could they,” Markl said starting to run with Bridget close behind.

“That’s right. You can only kill a ghost how they first died,” Alex remembered.

Cole and Daniel were all shook up and Dominique and Bryant just stood there shocked.

“What just happened,” asked Bryant

“I have no clue,” Dominique replied.

“Alex, come here,” Jasmine called.

            “Yeah?”

“I think we’ve found our ghosts.”

“Remember the only way to kill one from the dead is to re-kill it.”

“How it first died,” Jasmine said finishing Alex’s sentence. “Yeah I guess I forgot. How was that wire still live? It had a lot of slack and didn’t look like it was attached to anything.”

“It was connected to that pole,” Alex said pointed upwards.

“That was creepy,” Dominique said at last.

            “Not creepy, freaky,” Cole replied.

They walked towards Cole’s house and Daniel asked, “do you really have to leave at noon Alex?”

“No. It was a distraction really,” Jasmine cut in.

“What now,” Daniel asked.

“I really hope we don’t run into them again today,” Cole said.

“I don’t think we’ll see Max again. I believe he can rest in peace now,” Jasmine said

They walked back to Cole’s house and a while later Dominique and Bryant drove Jasmine and Alex to Alex’s house. No one said a word the entire way. When they arrived at Alex’s the girls headed straight to Gizmo’s documents.

“Can we rule out Ryan and Ethan from out list,” Alex asked.

“No, but we can add to our list,” Jasmine replied jolting down a few names.

They added Bridget, Markl, and Max and crossed out Max’s name. They looked into the local newspapers from the early 1900’s to figure out how to kill them and who died in the school when. They only found three deaths and causes within the hour.

“Hey Jasmine look at this! Here’s one from 1900. It’s not a student or a death at Stine High though,” Alex said.

“We’re looking for students not a random death.”

“Well here are two others. They died in 1913 from a explosion in a Science lab but there is no names because it says here students can’t be identified.”

“Well that’s helpful,” Jasmine said, “just keep looking. I haven’t found anything yet.”

They looked through about thirty newspapers before they gave in. By that time it was about ten before they stopped.

“Is there anything else that would give us an edge on this?”

“Doesn’t seem like it does it? What about the curse? Any clue in there,” asked Alex.

“Every thirteen years someone dies. We have just been looking though every newspaper. What year was the school built?”

“1900 according to this,” Alex said looking at a newspaper.

“Then let’s go to the library tomorrow again and check every thirteen years,” Jasmine said.

Sunday came and sure enough, the girls found a death of a freshman in every thirteenth year that was close to the end of the year.

“Look for Bridget, Max, and Markl,” Jasmine said.

“Here is Markl. Says he burned to death in 1939.”

            “What about the other two?”

“Um… hold on,” she replied flipping through the newspapers. “Bridget in 1952 cause was she drowned in a local swimming race and Max in 1965 was electrocuted which you already took care of.”

“Yeah. That was freaky,” Jasmine replied.

“Want to go for a walk?”

“Sure why not. Beats hanging here, no offense or anything.”

“Yeah no kidding it does get boring around here very easily,” Alex said.

They went for a walk down the dirt road and ran into the least expected person. They tried to ignore but he wouldn’t let them pass.

“What do you want Markl. We know you’re a ghost trying to kill us but we need to get somewhere so if you’ll just please excuse us we will be on our way,” Jasmine mused.

“The only place you’re going is right here beneath my feet.”

“Hey Jasmine, I’m going to go to the creek okay? See-ya back at my house about an hour, okay?”

“Now you’re mocking me,” Markl said letting his temper rise.

“You can’t be that hard to kill,” Jasmine said. “Or should I say kill again. We already know how.”

“I bet you won’t defeat me as easily as you’re saying.”

“I’ll take that bet,” Jasmine replied turning to Alex, “you go on I’ll see you soon enough.”

“Alright later than,” Alex replied walking off down the road.

“Lets see. How should I make you suffer? I don’t think I have sliced anyone to shreds yet,” Markl said amused at the thought.

“Bring it. I got my weapons right here,” Jasmine said clenching her fists.

Alex arrived at the creek and found Bridget waiting for her.

“I knew you would be here,” Bridget said.

“Good then no surprises from each of us.”

“The only surprise I got for you is what is going to happen to you when I’m done.”

“Oh quit flattering yourself and let me just kill you,” Alex said bored.

“You’ll be the first to die your highness.”

“C’mon you can fight better than that can’t you? You have only been dodging my blows. You’re not doing any damage what-so-ever,” Markl said.

“You really want this to end now,” Jasmine asked.

“Sure. Stay still and it will,” Markl replied impatiently as he tried to cut her with a switchblade.

“Since when I’m I royalty,” Alex asked sitting down near the water.

“Don’t you know anything miss goddess of wisdom?”
“Guess not. Well I do know how to kill you so I guess I know something beneficial.”

“You really need to study up on your Roman gods and goddesses. But I guess I should tell you what it means because you won’t be around to study after we’re through. Your last name means…”

“Goddess of wisdom so you’ve said before.”

“Fine you want to but in on my lesson than you can die sooner than planned. Let’s go for a swim shall we,” Bridget asked smiling.

Jasmine turned quick and grabbed his switchblade without him noticing. She turned so she faced his back and before he turned around she managed to nick his arm just enough to open the skin.

            “That doesn’t hurt kiddo.”

“I’m not trying to hurt you. I’m trying to kill you.”

“Well your not trying very hard are you,” Markl said.

“Sounds fun lets go,” Alex replied meeting Bridget’s amusement.

Alex was the first to jump in and as Bridget was about to Alex noticed a spear shaped rock in her hand.

“C’mon in the waters fine,” Alex said.

“Pleasures mine,” Bridget replied slipping into the water, “let’s have a race shall we? To that rock down the way some and back. But I can guarantee one of us won’t be coming back.”

            “Okay. Ready, set go!”

“I don’t need to try very hard to out wit you now do I,” Jasmine said remembering not to look directly into his eyes but also she learned never to back down.

“It will take more than a small scrape kid.”

“Well let’s take a break shall we I’m getting thirsty,” Jasmine said taking out a water bottle.

“You think we’re sparing? Get back here and let’s finish this!”

“Oh you want some? You could have just asked,” Jasmine said squirting it on Markl.

            “What the?”

“Done having a drink? Good. Because this sulfur wants to be lit,” Jasmine said holding up a match.

“No! This can’t be happening,” he yelled as he burst into flame right when the match had hit him.

“Insides burning yet? They should from that little ‘scrape’ I gave you earlier. Add that and some gas I had in my bottle and what do you get? A burned death,” Jasmine said walking away.

Bridget tried to knock out Alex but she was too quick. They both neared the rock when Alex had an idea.

“Too bad Antonio had to die. Real tragedy.”

“You killed Antonio? How could you!”

“Don’t worry I wasn’t the only one in on it.”

Alex picked up her speed and when she could feel the ground barely beneath her feet she jumped up and landed on the ground.

“Don’t tell me you’re running away. It won’t work Alex, even ask Antonio and Gizmo.”

“I’m not running away. I’m going to kill you.”

“How? I drowned remember. You’re up there and I’m down here. Exactly how do you plan on doing that?”

“Like this,” Alex said pushing the boulder over the edge and it landed right on Bridget.

She stood there and waited a few minutes until she knew for sure she was gone. “I knew that was going to give in soon,” Alex said to herself walking down the road.

The two girls met up again near Alex’s house and told each other how they killed Bridget and Markl then, headed up to get a bite to eat.
